UK Baby & Child Rules are Different
The strict adult passport photo rules are relaxed for young children. Here is exactly what GOV.UK requires for your child's age group.
Children Under 6
Toddlers and young children do not need to look directly at the camera or maintain a plain expression.
- Smiling is permitted
- Looking slightly away is fine
Babies Under 1
Newborns and infants do not need to have their eyes open.
- GOV.UK says you can support the baby's head, but your hand must not be visible in the final photo.

To make your session as quick and smooth as possible, keep these official guidelines in mind before you head to the studio.
Remove dummies and toys
These items must be removed just before the final frame is captured to ensure a clear view of the face.
No one else in the frame
The baby or child must be the only person visible. Parent's hands or arms supporting the child cannot show.
Contrast clothing
Avoid clothing that visually blends into a very light cream or grey background (e.g., pure white tops).
Allow settling time
Allow extra time for a baby to settle down. We don't rush these sessions.
Bring custom specs
Bring the exact application requirements if the photo is for a foreign passport or specific visa.
